If you can afford it, I would say go with a Mac. Linux being open source and all is very quirky and takes time to get use to. It is VERY stable and uses less resources than XP or Vista, but you also gotta remember it is NOT Windows or Mac compatible, which means you gotta use an emulator to run simple Windows stuff. Of course the software available is also very limited compared even to Mac. In my perfect world I would have a Mac hooked up for internet stuff, a PC (with no internet connection) in the corner to do all the important stuff only a PC can do easily and a laptop with Ubuntu Linex. So if it got stolen the crooks would either throw it way right off the bat or erase the harddrive and install something they can use, thus destroying all the data. =D

I like your perfect world. Can I get in on it? actually, after the warranty runs out on my dell, I'm buying a Mac with my leftover and saved up college loans returns. And my bf is thinking about buying me one of those little mini Acer laptops...I think you can get ones that run windows now, but I know a lot still run Linux >> lol. actually, I hope to get a windows one so I can actually work it. haha ^_^;
